Cheil Acquires ISO 14001 Certification for Environmental Management

Establishes global-level management systems for environmental management, safety, and health

    - Established a dedicated environmental task force and formed a company-wide environmental management council to implement a systematic management system
    - Targets a 25% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2050

Cheil has obtained the ‘ISO 14001’ environmental management system certification from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

‘ISO 14001’ is an international standard certification that evaluates whether a company has established an environmental management system and continuously improved it. It is granted after a comprehensive assessment of factors such as minimizing environmental impact, enhancing resource efficiency, and compliance with regulations.

Cheil is strengthening its company-wide environmental management system with the goals of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 25% by 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. In December 2024, it established a dedicated Environmental Management Team and formed a company-wide environmental management council, establishing a systematic management framework for environmental stewardship.

Furthermore, Cheil is striving to foster a sustainable industrial ecosystem. The company has developed and distributed the ‘Advertising Production Environmental Management Guidelines’ to employees and partners to minimize environmental impact during ad production. It also enhanced employee environmental awareness through various internal eco-friendly campaigns and education programs, such as a waste wire collection campaign.

Cheil previously received an A grade in the environmental category for two consecutive years (2023-2024) in the ESG evaluation results announced by the Korea Institute of Corporate Governance and Sustainability (KCGS). With this ‘ISO 14001’ certification, the company plans to further systematize and enhance its environmental management system in line with global standards.

Furthermore, in December 2023, Cheil became the first advertising agency in Korea to obtain the international standard occupational health and safety management system certification ‘ISO 45001’. This demonstrates its commitment to creating a safe working environment for both internal and external members and leading the advertising industry in occupational health and safety.

A Cheil representative stated, “Based on our global-level environmental and safety management systems, we plan to continue taking the lead in sustainable management and fulfilling our social responsibilities.”

    - Recognized for contributions to multicultural youth support, awarded the Minister of Gender Equality and Family Commendation

    □ ‘Let's Go Together to the Future! Enabling People’... Expanding diverse youth education and mutual growth activities

Cheil held the ‘Samsung Sports Class for Youth’ Summer Camp on the 7th at the Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance Global Campus (located in Goyang-si, Gyeonggi-do), bringing together multicultural youth and Samsung.

The Samsung Sports Class for Youth is a CSR initiative supporting multicultural and non-multicultural youth in jointly participating in sports activities to build confidence and social skills, enabling them to dream of a healthy future with strong bodies and minds.

Cheil prepared the Summer Camp so that youth who participated in the sports class over the past semester could gather in one place, spend their summer vacation meaningfully, and build teamwork and confidence. Approximately 170 youth participating in 15 sports classes nationwide took part in the Summer Camp.

The Samsung Sports Class for Youth is organized by Cheil, with participation from eight affiliated companies: Samsung Biologics, Samsung Bioepis, Hotel Shilla, S1, Samsung Seoul Hospital, Kangbuk Samsung Hospital, Samsung Wellstory, and Samsung Global Research.

Second Summer Camp held… Over 170 youth participate alongside Samsung employees and pro athletes

The Summer Camp ran throughout the morning and afternoon. Divided into four teams, the youth demonstrated the skills they learned in the first-half classes.

The morning session featured a ‘Healthy Body Sports Day’ with team sports activities including ▲soccer ▲basketball ▲T-ball (a modified team sport based on baseball) ▲Table tennis. The youth engaged in fierce, friendly competition for their team's victory. In the afternoon, the ‘Mental Strength Sports Day’ provided time to foster cooperation with peers. Various collaborative programs were held, such as working together to move a large ball and throwing as many balls as possible into a large cylindrical pillar within a time limit.

The event was attended not only by youth participating in the sports classes but also by Samsung employees and athletes from Samsung sports teams. Approximately 50 employees from sports clubs affiliated with nine Samsung companies, including Cheil, were assigned to teams alongside the youth, competing as players and cheering passionately. About 10 players from the Samsung Thunders basketball team also visited the site, teaching basketball skills to the youth and enjoying the Summer Camp together.

Samsung Thunders captain Hyun-min Choi stated, “Seeing the youth participate joyfully in the games conveyed their passion and gave me a lot of energy,” adding, “I hope to create more opportunities to connect with youth through sports in the future.”

Systematic education for the physical and mental health of multicultural youth… 278 participants across 15 classes

Cheil operates the Samsung Sports Class for Youth, launched in November 2023 in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, the Community Chest of Korea, and Save the Children. Now in its second year, the ‘Samsung Sports Class for Youth’ runs 15 classes across 13 institutions nationwide, including Seoul, Gyeonggi, Incheon, and Gyeongnam. A total of 278 youth is participating in the sports classes, which will run a 30-session curriculum through the end of this year.

The Samsung Sports Class for Youth consists of the ‘Strong Body Class’ and the ‘Strong Mind Class’. In the Strong Body Class, participants learn five team sports—including soccer, basketball, and table tennis—from professional sports instructors, aiming to foster teamwork and build bonds through sports activities. The Strong Mind Class supports multicultural youth by working with psychological and emotional experts to help overcome various emotional challenges they may face in school or society.

Samsung employees and sports team players participate as supporters of multicultural youth

Approximately 200 employees from sports clubs at nine Samsung companies, including Cheil, are volunteering their talents for Samsung Sports Class for Youth. Samsung employees visit each class, sweating alongside the youth during sports practice and games. They also serve as assistant coaches to professional instructors, supporting the youth's sports activities.

Last July, the youth visited the Samsung Life Blueminx women's basketball team, learning basketball skills from the players and enjoying a friendly mini-game. Additionally, during a Suwon Samsung Bluewings home soccer match in April, youth invited with their families participated as ‘escort kids,’ holding players' hands as they entered the stadium together, creating a meaningful experience.

Some youth who completed last year's inaugural class are also participating in this year's sports class. These first-year graduates participate as mentors, helping the younger youth adapt to the class and developing their social skills and teamwork through leadership roles.

New advanced soccer class launched, offering Suwon Samsung Youth Club tryout opportunities

The Samsung Sports Class for Youth has launched an advanced soccer program this year to go beyond positive physical and mental changes and discover the potential of young people. It selects multicultural youth with outstanding talent for intensive training, combined with tailored psychological education covering goal setting and mental management. Various field trip programs are also available, including visits to soccer museums and observing professional players' practices.

In October this year, participants will also take part in tryouts for the Suwon Samsung Bluewings Youth Team (U-12). Multicultural youth accepted into the youth team will receive support including sports equipment provision and one-on-one mentoring sessions with Suwon Samsung Bluewings professional players.

Advanced class student Si-jun Choi (age 12, pseudonym) said, “Learning soccer gave me confidence and helped me become closer with my friends,” adding, “I want to work hard to join the youth team and become a responsible soccer player like Son Heung-min.”

Multicultural youth experience positive psychological changes through sports classes

A study conducted last year by Professor Kyung-eun Yang's research team from the Department of Social Welfare at Sungkonghoe University revealed that the synergy between sports and psychological education brings about positive psychological changes and strengthens emotional resilience in participating youth.

Surveys comparing adolescents' psychological and emotional states before and after program participation, along with analysis of their responses through focus group interviews (FGI), showed a 12.5% increase in the growth indicator ‘self-affirmation’ and a 17.7% increase in ‘multicultural inclusion’. The negative indicator ‘depression’ decreased by 11.3%.

Eun-jung Kim (age 12, pseudonym), a participant in the study, stated, “After joining the program, I feel more confident, thinking ‘I can do this.’” She added, “I'm no longer afraid to try new and unfamiliar things; instead, I find it enjoyable.”

Mi-sook Kim, instructor of the Strong Mind Class, stated, “Among the participating students, Hyunji (age 11, pseudonym) tended to struggle communicating with friends due to difficulty expressing emotions, but has improved significantly after joining the class.” She added, “As communication skills have improved, friends are naturally approaching her, leading to better peer relationships.”

The mother of Gyu-min Lee (9, pseudonym), who participates in the sports class, said, “Since my child joined the program, I feel she has matured mentally—she's become more proactive in everything and considerate of others. I'm proud and grateful.”

Cheil was recognized for its contributions to supporting multicultural youth and enhancing their capabilities, receiving a commendation from the Minister of Gender Equality and Family at an event commemorating Family Month last May.

Supporting the healthy growth of multicultural youth... May they achieve their big dreams with strong bodies and minds

Attending the event to cheer on the youth were Democratic Party of Korea Assembly Member Ki-heon Lee, People Power Party Assembly Member Ji-yeon Cho, Director of the Multicultural Family Division at the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family Jae-woong Lee, Secretary General of the Community Chest of Korea In-sik Hwang, Chairman of Save the Children Korea Joon Oh, and CEO of Cheil Worldwide John Jonghyun Kim.

Rep. Ki-heon Lee of the Democratic Party of Korea stated, “I encourage you to cherish your friends and seniors through sports activities and grow into adults who are strong in both body and mind,” adding, “I also ask all attendees to offer much encouragement and support to these youth who will become the main actors of our society.”

Rep. Ji-yeon Cho of the People Power Party said, “I applaud the youth who participated diligently in the Samsung Sports Class for Youth. I expect your future to be even brighter as you develop teamwork with friends and grow stronger in body and mind.”
